The Metrobank Group are planning to expand their energy sector following productively putting up its first power making unit in Cebu. They are planning to go in Visayas as well, to most popular tourist in Boracay. George S.K. Ty, Metrobank chairman said that this will increase their investment opportunity.
“I feel that the country needs more power . . . Remember that the most expensive power is no power, so we bring this not only as a business but to serve our people,” he said.
The Metrobank can start this project through the help of its unit Global Business Power Corp., in which earlier tied up with Aboitiz Power Corp., Vivant Energy Corp. and Formosa Heavy Industries of Taiwan. The amount needed for this plan is almost P23 billion and if this will succeed this will be the first generating facility put up in the island-province in over 25 years.
In addition from Cebu project, the group is also putting up a coal-fired power plant in Panay, which is also faced with a provide shortage.
