Boracay Ranks as One of the World’s Best Islands by UK Travel Guide

Condé Nast Traveler, UK’s leading travel magazine, includes Boracay as one of the top island destinations in the world.

In the slideshow titled “Top 30 Islands in the World: Reader’s Choice Awards 2014” published on October 20 and written by Brooklyn-based writer Jenna Scherer, Boracay is placed 12th. The ranking is based on Readers’ Rating given by users of the site. Boracay received a Readers’ Rating of 82.683.

“This itty-bitty island (10 square miles) in the Western Philippines is as close to the tropical idyll ideal as you’ll find in the Philippines, with gentle coastlines and transporting sunsets,” writes Scherer. “Add in a thriving nightlife scene, and you have one of the top tourist spots in the region.”

Boracay outranked equally popular beaches such as Bermuda (14th), Oahu, Hawaii (16th), Bali, Indonesia (17th), and Maldives (19th), to name a few.

The Philippines’ premier tropical destination is no stranger to awards and rankings as one of the best islands in the world. Boracay made its debut ranking at number four on the Top 10 Islands list compiled by Travel + Leisure in 2011. The next year, the same online guide names Boracay as the best island in the world with a 93.1 rating based on a conducted survey to readers. Bali and Galápagos comes in second and third place with a 90.41 and 89.55 rating, respectively.

TripAdvisor, the top travel website, names the island as the Best Island in 2014.”White, powdery beach sand that doesn’t get hot even at high noon. It is really amazing,” says a user on the site.

Interestingly enough, the Condé Nast Traveler slideshow ranks Palawan, Philippines at the top spot with an 88.75 rating. “This small island—one of the Philippines’ 7,107—shot to the top of our list this year with a recent claim to fame: It’s now home to one of the new seven natural wonders of the world, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River,” according to the slide.

Other islands ranked in the slideshow include Kiawah Island, South Carolina (2nd), Maui, Hawaii (3rd), Kauai, Hawaii (4th), and Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique (5th).
